Excellent Lebanese cuisine in a really nice atmosphere. The staff are very friendly and helpful if it's your first time learning Lebanese and will explain the ingredients and help with the menu. The quality and price are right and it's another successful evening. Vegetarian options: There are many dishes without meat in Lebanese cuisine (hommus, baba ghanoush, lots of falafel, labneh, various salads, etc.) so it is a paradise for vegetarians Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: €20–30 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes: Schawarma-teller, Falafel Halloumi Deluxe, Falafel Deluxe, Fladenbrot Recommendation for vegetarians: Highly recommend Vegetarian offerings: Clearly labeled vegetarian dishes

I've been going to Express regularly with friends and family for years and have always enjoyed it. The Express has good Lebanese cuisine at upscale prices, but the price-performance ratio has always been right for us. BUT: Now apparently the boss (or one) has left and someone else is now responsible. Apparently he has been the “boss” for a long time, but at least not yet responsible for customer contact. We always dealt with the nice lady and never saw another “boss” in the restaurant. Maybe until now he was only responsible for the kitchen. Since there is not the classic Lebanese “mezze”, i.e. a mixed starter plate with many different delicacies, but only a few starters and different main course plates, each with a small selection, we have always ordered several main courses with several people and each other So we put together our own “mezze” with additional plates. And since the main courses only contain very little falafel and you can't order them separately from the menu, we have always ordered extra falafel outside of the menu - and always got them (at fair prices). BUT: as I said: new boss and probably new rules too! We asked again for extra falafels and to our surprise, after asking the boss, the waiter told us that this was not possible “for economic reasons”. Because we “e.g. would have to get extra plates.” (huh?) The price hasn't even been discussed yet, so why say that it's not economically worthwhile? When I politely asked if I could speak to the boss because I didn't understand the reasoning (how much extra effort would it take to prepare 4 pieces of falafel instead of 2?) and would like to find a solution, I was then asked (after consulting with the manager). Boss) told me that the boss didn't have time to talk to me. POINT ! – no further justification! End of discussion! NOTE: At this point in time, there were FIVE other guests in the restaurant, which had a capacity of around 60-80 guests, besides us, three of whom had already had their main course. So there wasn't much to prepare in the kitchen... But he was probably embarrassed himself to have to personally explain his absurd reason for rejecting the extra request. And apparently, under the new boss, the restaurant no longer needs to talk to customers. I could have saved myself the final discussion with the waiter and in retrospect I feel sorry for him because he couldn't do anything about it and was just the bearer of the news and was obviously uncomfortable with being stuck in the middle like that to snub the customer like that. CONCLUSION: A restaurant where the boss doesn't think it's necessary to talk to the customer is a no-go for me and therefore no longer an option. The higher prices then no longer fit into the price-performance ratio. P.S. We then walked 10 minutes further and spent a wonderful evening in TEL AVIV-JAFFA, where, despite the similar quality of food, the customer friendliness was exactly the opposite of the express under the new boss! PS: Dear Mr. Zibi, Regarding your comment: We don't go to a restaurant to eat ONE (!) falafel each. We ordered two main courses or large starters and wanted two additional falafels. There can be no question of “under 10 euros”. Especially since we had already ordered wine, a soft drink and a bottle of water and had it on the table. And if there really was a misunderstanding, I don't understand why you didn't come to the table with us, because then it would have been cleared up very quickly. But letting the very nice waiter tell us you don't have time, without further explanation, is not very customer oriented.

I regret that this misunderstanding …Dear Mr. Vollhardt, I would like to reassure you that your regular restaurant "Der Express" has continued to be run by me, Ali Zibi, since 2002. I regret that this misunderstanding occurred during your visit. There were two of them in my restaurant. Your meal with the special request would have cost less than ten euros per person. That wouldn't have covered the cost of your visit. The commitment of my wife and I ensures reasonable prices. By the way, our dining car has 29 seats and not 60-80 as you wrote. My wife, the 'nice boss', has retired from active work in the restaurant. My staff is helpful and friendly. As head chef, I continue to ensure the quality and freshness of our food, as I have done for over twenty years. I hope that despite the misunderstanding you will remain our guest. Sincerely Ali Zibi Dear Mr. Vollhardt, This message was now written by me, the waiter who was there that evening, and passed on unchanged. I thank you for your friendly treatment towards me despite the unfortunate circumstances and emotions. I understand the anger, but I would like to describe my point of view as a person “between chairs”. As you rightly mentioned, I moved from the kitchen to the table several times and communicated vicariously. Unfortunately, I can't remember that an order even ended up on my notepad or in the kitchen. In my memory we only discussed a falafel - halloumi plate deluxe with additional balls. When I gave you the message that this was not possible because it was not economically possible for us, you asked me directly for the bill. Sometimes there was only an order for €17.90 (without drinks) for two customers. For a restaurant with 29 seats today, this represents an order for which we have to ask ourselves the question of profitability. I can also tell you with complete confidence that customer friendliness has always been the top priority at this restaurant. After about 5 years as a waiter there, I would say that this situation was an exception in which we unfortunately could not meet your expectations as a customer. As a waiter, I also regret this. I would like to encourage you to honor us again. I think we will find a solution so you can enjoy our delicacies again. Best regards More
