After breakfast we passed the small restaurant De Casserole on our way to the city center for a boat tour. Since the restaurant was still closed, I took a look at the menu, which was visible behind the front door. At that moment the door was opened from the inside and we immediately had a friendly conversation with the owner/head chef. We reserved a table for 4 people outside in the evening. The reception was extremely warm, the chef's wife immediately tried to talk to us in German, and the other service staff also liked the German communication. The service was great and then the food came. We had 2 different starters and 4 different main courses, which were all visually very stylish and, above all, tasted wonderful. We also had a bottle of Grüner Veltliner, simply wonderful. Finally, a spontaneous dessert made of vanilla ice cream, cream and hot chocolate was conjured up for our 10-year-old son Pascal, which I don't think was even on the menu. My mum and I were visiting Ghent for a few hours and found De Casserolle by chance. Yves welcomed us in and treated us like family, despite us being unable to speak Flemish. The food was out of this world. The simple but very tasty broccoli soup with warm lavash bread was great, but there was more to come... The main speciality was the freshly caught Ray's wing, which was sublime. Again simply prepared but was unbelievably delicious. Yves is the perfect host and De Casserolle only seats 16 but is somewhere every person must visit once in their lives, foodie or not. What a find. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
