Das Wirtshaus was close to my hotel. I made a reservation but arrived late as I got lost in Kiel looking for the restaurant. When I arrived late at 8 PM, the waitress was very snippy and said that seating outdoors was closed for the day. Although the restaurant was open until 11 PM, the jaitress said that there were no tables available inside and that the restaurant was closing. In reality, closing time was 3 hours later at 11 PM. By then there were two other jaitresses by her side for lying support. She lied, was rude, bitter, unprofessional and didn't care about her restaurant or her guest.......................................In response to the owner's comments: Your public, Your guests are not responsible for your labor issues/concerns/problems. We are looking for a good meal at a fair price during publicly posted opening hours. We should in no way be involved in labor issues. You are very right. I would not listen. I am totally indifferent to your problems as a small business owner. That is neither the business of your guests nor their concern. Labor/Staffing issues are your problem, Mr. Owner. Your guests do not want to hear one word about it. You are the owner and as owner it is you who is SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR STAFFING ISSUES. I am confident that you have not yet realized that you need to carry trays yourself when confronted with a shortage of waiters/waitresses in order to make your guests happy and keep your business on course and afloat. Dear Mr. Blackburn, I am the manager of the company and was talking to you. As I explained, we were not accepting new tables after 8 pm, due to the lack of staff that day. The two waitresses you were seeing had to deal with all the guests alone. As I explained to you (but you wouldn´t listen), we had this day 4 persons staff missing due to illness and had to draw a line, because we don´t want to force our staff to work 14 or 15 hours. Yes, we shut down the lights at 11 p.m. because closing a restaurant is lasting a little bit longer, than bringing the bill to the last guest. There is a lot of work left. To insinuate, that we are lying to you, is not very kind of you, because I tried to explain to you, that we have to protect our fantastic and very hard-working staff. We are underlying the same trouble, as most of restaurants in Germany, that are forced to close earlier or on special days or take less guests, due to corona impacts. I don´t regret, that I made a decisions on behalf of the staff, I regret, that people like you are so less understanding. Best regards.
