I tried this place after a friend recommended it. I have returned time and time again for years due to the amazing food, great variety to choose from, great customer service, and 10% off if you pay in cash. I genuinely love the food here and have never been disappointed, the prices are also reasonable for the amount of food you get. Best restaurant in Mississauga, Thank you Spoon and Fork Corner! I’m all about supporting small businesses, especially during the hardships endured during the pandemic. However, I was left extremely disappointed following my most recent visit on December 31, 2020.

I’d like to note that I ordered food from here a few times this year already. I find there food decent and reasonably priced. I live about 20 minutes away from the restaurant, so typically I prefer ordering ahead of time to spare any wait times. Google Maps indicated they were open today (New Years Eve). I tried calling the restaurant a couple of times today between 4:15-4:25 pm, however the line would ring once and forward to a voicemail that isn’t set up. I decided to go on their website and order online (since I couldn’t get through by phone). I was able to place my order online at 4:29 pm, despite their website saying their online ordering system was temporarily unavailable. I subsequently received a text message confirming my order had been placed. I called the restaurant at 4:29 pm just to make sure my order was accepted. The woman who I spoke with didn’t seem to be aware of the online order message on their website, however she assured me that my order was received and would be ready by 5:45 pm as I requested.

My boyfriend and I arrived at the restaurant at approximately 5:37 pm. Upon entering, I noticed it was quite busy and there was a bit of a line up for the single cashier. I was glad that I ordered ahead of time, thinking that thankfully I wouldn’t have to wait (boy was I wrong). I payed for my order (with tip), and was told by the cashier that my order was “almost done”. My order was a sushi platter, 2 kitchen (hot food) items and 2 bubble teas. There was a male staff member (who I’m assuming to be the manager) who was going around to waiting customers providing updates on their orders. He advised us that they are just waiting for our sushi item to be completed. I saw our bubble teas and hot food dishes were already prepared on the counter. He seemed courteous and friendly to be doing this. I understood that it would be busier than normal, considering it was a holiday, so I didn’t mind waiting a FEW extra minutes.

For customers who didn’t order ahead of time and ordered in the restaurant, the cashier was telling them that their order should be ready after 20 minutes. There was another customer who I overheard placed her order for pick up at 5:45 pm as well, and she received her order on time upon arrival. However, around 5:55 pm I overheard another customer advising the (supposed) manager that he placed his order to be picked up for 6:00 pm and that he was in a “time crunch”. Please keep in mind the online ordering pick up times are in increments of 15 minutes, and clearly his order SHOULD have been ready after ours. The manager told the customer that they like to prepare the sushi orders “fresh” which is why it’s taking longer. The manager then had a word with the 2 sushi chefs, and shortly advised that customer the he requested his sushi platter be prepared asap and that they were making his order now. At around 6:00 pm I heard the cashier telling new customers that the restaurant is no longer accepting new sushi orders as they don’t have the capacity to accommodate sushi items. That same customer approached the manager a couple other times thereafter, by which the manager offered him free beverages (I saw he was given 2 free bubble teas). Fast forward to around 6:10-6:15 pm, the other customer’s food was ready and given to him!! His order even looked slightly larger, and I could tell he had: a sushi platter, a few kitchen items and the 2 free bubble teas he was given. The manager even helped this customer to his car, and who knows if he was given extra freebies.

Keep in mind that their were several other customers who ordered after us, or who didn’t order ahead online that received their orders ahead of us. When the manager returned to the restaurant, my boyfriend and I approached him as we were waiting over 30 minutes already. I pointed out to the manager that:
- It’s 6:15 pm, and we are still waiting for our order that should have been ready by 5:45 pm.
- The other customer who came AFTER us who placed his order for pick up at 6:00 pm was given his order ahead of us.

The manager responded advising:
- He apologized for the wait.
- However, he denied that they prepared the other customer’s sushi platter before ours.
- He told me that the other customer’s sushi platter was only “rolls”, unlike ours which was a combination of rolls and sashimi.
- He then went on to make an excuse that there was a reason why they disabled the online ordering.

I could tell he felt uncomfortable being confronted, and he wasn’t being truthful, and shortly after he walked away and went behind the counter.

The manager’s explanation didn’t make sense for the following reasons (as mentioned earlier):
- Upon placing my online order, I called the restaurant shortly thereafter to make sure that my online order went through. I was advised by a staff member that it did and I wasn’t advised otherwise.
- The restaurant was still accepting new in-person orders upon my arrival. It was only until approximately 6:00 pm that they stopped accepting new sushi orders.
- The manager clearly placed a priority on the other customer’s sushi order, probably because he was complaining and more vocal then I initially was.
- The other customers order seemed to be larger than mine, considering the amount of items.
- The difference between him having all rolls vs. ours being rolls and sashimi has nothing to do with whose order was ready first. The fact is, if the manager advised the sushi chefs to prepare his order first, then that’s the manner in which he prioritized the orders and the direction the sushi chefs will follow.

We received our order at approximately 6:25 pm. The manager tried to give us a $5 voucher for our next visit, which we declined. Was our long wait and unfair treatment seriously worth only $5?

As you can tell by the length of this review, I was left extremely dissatisfied by this experience. I’ve previously worked front-facing customer service jobs and I don’t normally write reviews, however this was very upsetting. In summary:
- The manager clearly gave preferential treatment to another customer who complained. He went over and above for this customer, which left us feeling undervalued as a customers. The restaurant should give equitable treatment to all customers as warranted.
- When confronted by the facts, the manager denied any unfair treatment on his part and denied what I stated. Excuses for the tardiness, unfair treatment/service were provided, however, no accountability was taken.
- We waited approximately 45 minutes after our designated pickup time, despite ordering ahead of time. My hot food items were waiting the entire time while my sushi was being prepared. By the time I arrived home they were cold.

Had I known earlier of these events, I definitely wouldn’t have left a tip. Seems like you have to be a regular customer and/or complain to be acknowledged in this restaurant. It’s a shame, because their food is decent. However, they just lost a potentially loyal customer. I hope they learn from this experience, and improve on their: processes, service delivery, honesty and customer service.
