The Certosa di Pontignano is located in the Municipality of Castelnuovo Berardenga ... we are in Sienese land ... lands of dirt roads and sudden "pettate" ... like the one that climbs from Ponte a Bozzone. A 16% wall that suddenly arises between you and the destination ... immersed in an area planted with olive trees. I got there on the basis of a decision taken after having stopped at the Landscape Museum in Castelnuovo Berardenga and having "possessed" a brochure distributed there. I arrived, rigorously with the racing bike, after "tackling" stretches of white roads and, indeed, the final "pettata" on a splendid summer day but with high temperatures. Today the Monastery is no longer a place reserved for monks but is a "union" between the activities of the University of Siena and reception activities that I can't explain better (there was an intense activity that seemed cultural to me and reserved for an international audience). I asked to be able to visit the place, at least in the common areas, and to be able to access the internal bar to be able to stock up on "precious" fresh water; something that was granted to me with the "recommendation" to stop at the Church, dedicated to St. Peter and wonderfully frescoed in part by Poccetti .. at least the layout seems to lead to him. The Main Cloister and the Great Cloister are beautiful, as are the Italian Gardens ... my only gripe is not having seen the Refectory with the Last Supper, also by Poccetti (it will be a reason to return to those places ... if I will be allowed).
