Had the curry lobster combo:. Coconut seafood soup. Mango Salad. Beef pad thai. Mango sticky rice Curry lobster The main dish, curry twin lobsters, was tasty and well seasoned, but unfortunately the lobster itself was mushy, signifying not-fresh lobster was used. Otherwise the rest of the combo was great. Hopefully the dead lobsters were just a one-off thing. Food: 2 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Meal type: Lunch Price per person: $100+

I hadn’t set foot in a Thai restaurant in Toronto since leaving behind the familiar flavours of Thai Garden at McCowan and Sheppard, and Sukhothai in Yorkville—both more than 30 years ago. Quite by chance, I decided to revisit those memories on Canada Day this year and stopped in at Canadian Thai Restaurant. To my pleasant surprise, the experience was genuinely enjoyable. The food brought back the kind of fresh, vibrant taste I’ve always loved about Thai cooking. The fish cake and mango salad were especially nostalgic, not only in flavour but in price—still listed at $9.99, as though time had stood still since the early ‘90s. It’s rare these days to find a place that manages to balance fair pricing with good quality, and this spot does it well. If you’re looking for a simple, unpretentious Thai meal that feels a bit like stepping back into a more affordable Toronto, this is definitely worth a visit. Oh wow. They literally halfed their portions, just paid $25.99 for a tiny portion of curry - literally the smallest plastic container you can imagine, like the one you'd get your pasta salad from Loblaws in. I know the size of portions previously - I guess they jumped on the "shrinkation" vagon too. I am NEVERR ordering again. Shameful.
