Cozy and simple place, with a fireplace in the corner. The entire menu is made of local products, very good and of high quality. The caciocavallo on the grill and the initial platter in particular are truly exquisite. Welcoming and friendly staff. I arrive at the refuge on a typical winter day with cold and snow. Introduction: we arrived early but having a small child we went inside. Bare environment (even a little sad being the Christmas period), with a large and beautiful fireplace which however produced so much smoke that it burned your eyes. When we asked if we could sit at the table - just sit so we could feed the child (food brought from home which therefore did not require their intervention) - we were told to wait for them to finish eating and that the table was not ready. Finally the right moment arrives and they make us sit at the table (which remained identical to how it was before the "preparation"). The food arrives: mixed roast, polenta in sauce with sausage, roasted scamorza. The quality/price ratio was completely disproportionate: the polenta was terrible, you could taste all the lumps of flour in your mouth, the sauce was completely tasteless and two slices of sausage for the modest price of €16. The only positive note is the dessert (fried ravioli with ricotta and cinnamon). It's a shame because the place where it is located is very beautiful... but the refuge has nothing of the refuge as I understand it: hospitality and goodness of the products... all that remains is a fairly high bill. Following your response, I would like to point out that my request, which was very explicit, was certainly not to eat and be served while the staff ate. I simply asked to sit at the table to feed an 18 month old MY food, brought from MY house. If it had been summer I would have stayed outside without any problems. Since the tables were ready and set, I don't think I caused you any particular difficulty. It was just a matter of directing me to the table designated for me. After that I could have let my child eat and wait without any problem for the kitchen to open so I could eat (as happened). The Campetto degli Alpini in Roccaraso is a splendid place to spend time outdoors, surrounded by greenery. Here it is possible to self-manage the day thanks to the presence of braziers and tables, perfect for organizing a picnic or a barbecue with friends. The place also offers the possibility of going away for a walk in the surrounding area, enjoying the surrounding nature. My favorite corner, however, is undoubtedly the restaurant. Here you can enjoy simple but carefully prepared dishes, which reflect local tradition. The bruschettas are delicious, especially the ones with provolone and truffle. The local meat is always excellent and of high quality, but even the first courses do not disappoint: recently, off the menu, I had the opportunity to taste some fettuccine with venison, and they were truly delicious. Prices are average for the area and the service is attentive and friendly. The team works very hard to make guests feel at ease. You can relax, sunbathe, sip a glass with friends and enjoy the day. I highly recommend a visit to the Campetto degli Alpini, an ideal place to enjoy an authentic and pleasant experience in the mountains.
