We seem to have so few "destination bakeries" in Edmonton so when I hear about one I usually try it out. That's how I up at Breadland Organic Whole Grain Bakery at Oliver Square. It's a little out of the way for me but so goes the quest for good bread. Today I picked up a loaf of spealt grain bread, a baguette and a muffin. The section was better than I expected. The service was very helpful; they seemed to know their ptoduct. This is not one of those pasterie bakeries that temp you with all sorts of things you shouldn't eat; it's a bread bakery. There are some tables for those who just can't wait to try out their purchase but I returned home to sample the product. Oil and balsamic vinegar (from Evoolution on 104th Street) was the perfect pairing for the bread which was full in flavour. I'm sure it was as healthy as it was delicious. The baggette had cranberries in it which is not how I like it but I bought it for my wife who said it was excellent. I'm rating Breadland 4.5 out of 5. I would rate them higher if they were on the south side or on a train route. I will be back.
Appearance: This is a nice bakery where you can sit at a table and eat yummy baked goods with a pot of hot tea and have your food served on the cutest plates. A nice little spot for a light lunch.
Service: Friendly and helpful and patient. Bonus points for more than gladly offering hot water to brew another cup of tea.
Food: Banana Muffin: Fresh and moist, but with the proper texture that a muffin should have and lots of flavor.
Spinach in pastry: this had a very light pastry and the spinach filling was great...but I cannot remember the name of the product.
Tea: It is bagged tea (lose points), but they provide a kettle with hot water and you can get refills of the hot water for a second brew.
Go Again: Yes, I want to try their bread and other baked goods
