Booksa had been recommended to us by nearly everyone as one of Zagreb’s “hidden gems,” so we decided to check it out. While it’s definitely beloved, calling it hidden is a bit of a stretch—it’s located in a central park area surrounded by other bustling spots, making it easy to find. The interior has real charm, with vintage furniture and a cozy, intellectual vibe that invites you to slow down and read, write, or reflect. It feels more like a literary club than a typical café, which makes sense—it is one. What caught us a bit off guard, however, was the requirement to purchase an annual membership just to grab a coffee. It’s inexpensive (around €2), but it’s an odd ask for tourists who are just stopping by for a drink. Still, we signed up and ordered a latte and a macchiato—both of which were excellent. Unfortunately, the experience was slightly marred by some distracting activity. The staff or owners were moving items between floors, creating quite a bit of noise, which made it hard to relax or get any work done. After a while, we gave up on the idea of lingering and headed out. In short, Booksa is definitely worth visiting for its atmosphere and great coffee, especially if you're a literature lover or looking for a more offbeat café experience in Zagreb.
