I am one of those people that usually writes only good reviews and avoid being overly critical. But this one will be an exception.
We were relieved and grateful that the restaurant agreed to serve us past 3 pm even with parts of the kitchen closed. However what ensued later has left us nearly traumatized and scratching our heads about the whole affair.
On receiving the check, we noticed a 10 euro charge for "Bar". Not recognizing it I ventured to get a clarification. At which point the response from the restaurant manager was "... for glass. We have a video". We were a little confused and I proceeded to check out what he was pointing at. It turns out the action of my wife removing a ziplock bag of medications and putting it back in to her cross-shoulder bag was misconstrued as her 'Houdini-esquely' slipping two 250 ml (IKEA?) glasses into her slim bag! While I tried to explain this and offered to check all of our bags he was bizarrely adamant and proceeded to call the police. We said "Fine with us if that's how you want to resolve this", despite this adversely impacting our precious sightseeing time in Rome.
After waiting for about 30 minutes trying to reason with the utmost stubborn manager I proceeded to empty the bags on a table while the waitress another hanger-on sitting there watched. I expected an apology at this point. But was flabbergasted when we saw the highly animated manager pointing his finger at the door, fuming and yelling "Get out, get out".
We gave him a piece of our minds as objectively as we could, paid the revised check and left. We are trying to reach the owner of this restaurant. We only got the name Luigi from a hotel across the alley. I sincerely hope they change their attitude and perhaps watch the entirety of closed circuit video to their hearts' content and re-inventory the tableware for their own gratification.
