As my partner and I wandered the back streets of Valletta looking for somewhere new to grab a bite, we came upon a lovely little bistro named Angela’s. Located just off the corner of Old Bakery Street and San Gwann in one of Valletta’s old, refurbished buildings. We were greeted by a nice young man with a friendly smile. It was after eleven in the morning, so we asked if we could get breakfast. The answer was, “no problem”. I had Eggs Benedict that came with a scrumptious salad and my partner had the Full English Breakfast. Both portions were generous, delicious, and budget-friendly. Angela’s serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. With a full bar, wine, beer, tea, and freshly ground coffee, there is something to please any taste. A Hidden Maltese Gem in Valletta It was time to stop wandering the back streets of Valetta and find an off-the-tourist-track place for lunch. As soon as we spoke the words, we saw Angela’s. One door from the corner of Triq San Gwann and Old Bakery Street, we looked at the menu outside and saw they were serving breakfast. The cozy restaurant is in a beautifully restored building of stone and wood. Vintage photos of Valetta cover the walls. Maltese lace hangs in the windows. A coffee/cocktail bar occupies a corner. A few tables are dotted about the room. Classic jazz played softly in the background. We knew we had selected the right place. Our server brought lunch menus but quickly exchanged them when we asked for breakfast. We had the kind of server you hope for. Friendly, accommodating, and very attentive. We chatted with him about our home – Gozo – and his home – Nepal. I had the full English breakfast, and my companion had an Eggs Benedict Ftira. Both were generous portions, perfectly prepared, and beautifully presented. The eggs were exceptional, especially the flawless poached eggs on the Benedict. My toast was Maltese bread, not the usual white loaf. We ate every bite and plan to return for lunch or dinner soon. Although we had only one experience at Angela’s, it was apparent the food, service, and atmosphere are always top-notch. We give Angela’s our highest Restaurant Scout recommendation. Be sure to stop in next time you are off the beaten path in Valletta, Malta. A charming traditional bistro with an amazing romantic atmosphere! Beautiful, simple decoration and a cozy French flair feeling- feels like in Paris! The staff was very friendly. The food is superb! We tried the bruschetta (one of the best we’ve ever eaten), the snails, and the (of course) the rabbit and the octopus. Everything was fresh and cooked “home style”. Simply delicious! The desserts were also very tasty! If you look for a quiet intimate atmosphere with delicious food, this is your place! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
