There’s a certain charm in walking into a place late at night, half-expecting a closed sign, and being pleasantly surprised. I visited Akakiko at the SCS around 21:00 with my son, slightly unsure if they were still open. The staff was already cleaning up, but we were warmly welcomed nonetheless. We both ordered a duck ramen, mainly because my son encouraged me to try it. I normally avoid duck, as it’s often too fatty for my taste, so that part was very much a personal preference—not a flaw of the kitchen. The soup itself, however, was well done: rich, balanced, and comforting, especially at that hour. Everything arrived properly hot, and the overall execution felt solid and reliable rather than experimental. What did stand out was the price. At €17.50 for a ramen bowl, it’s clearly on the higher end, even if it’s becoming the new normal these days. It’s not outrageous, but it does make you pause for a second, especially if ramen used to be your go-to affordable comfort food.
