Founded in 1794 on a small farm and a Trappist abbey since 1836. The monks live a life of prayer and work (farming, making cheese and brewing the best tripel in the world). Ora et Labora!
The mother of all tripels, the Westmalle Tripel, was called Superbier until 1956. It's a strong blonde ale, refermented in the bottle for 3 weeks. A true style icon. Often imitated, never duplicated.
