We had a hellish time staying here. If there is 0 points to be awarded I will award this apartment 0 points. After checking in, we went for a short walk around the area. When we came back to the unit, we saw a man who said he is the maintenence guy with another guy in our unit. He claimed that we flooded his apartment and demanded that we pay him Chf100,000.00 failing which we have to surrender our passports. He gave us a glimpse of the video showing the tap head gushing out water but we were very sure when we left the tap head was securely in place and the tap was not on like in his video. We were out for around 30 mins only. He said that the water seeped to the 2nd floor and to the 1st floor and spoilt his insulation. I told him they were cement floors with laminated flooring. The area that was affected (I saw his staff wiping that area) was less than 10 feet by 6 feet and it was dry a few mins later. We were at the area outside the apartment when the indicent happened . There was no call to us or anything like that. We did not have a chance to take any photos to see how affected the room was as he and his wife pushed us out when we went to our apartment shouting and screaming at us. We wanted to see the units below us but he did not allow. I overheard his worker saying there is actually nothing wrong in the unit below. I saw the pail where they squeezed the water into. It was around 6 inches in diameter. The pail had only around 2 inches of water in it. It turned out that the guy who said he was in charge of maintenance is the manager by the name of Julen. WhenJulen was not successful in getting any money from us, he wanted our passports. We didn't give and he threatened with police action. It was Sunday, around 7.30pm. The policeman came and we couldn't settle the matter as I do not even have chf100,000.00! So we had to be present at the police station the next morning at 10am. We were at the police station around 9am or 9.15am (the police opened the police station early for him otherwise the normal opening time is 10am). We were there for around 3 to 4 hours and could only get out after we paid a hefty sum. There was no recoding of statements by the police. They kept asking us to settle the matter. The policeman were adamant that we settle the matter or things could get worse. One of them said Julen had to dry the wood, air the unit for 2 months before he could fix the pieces back. And they are now talking to the Judge who will decide my case. Julen in the end said his insurance will pay partial and that I have to foot the rest of his bill to repair the flooring. I know all that Julen said was not truebut the police agreed with him and there was no way we could avoid paying him and we feared for our lives. Yes, we really feared for our lives. Btw, he repeatedly asked for our insurance and I told him he could claim from his insurance then only he decided to lessen his demand. I have travelled to 50 over countries and been in worse places and less developed countries but this is the 1st time I have encountered such an incident and in a country that I thought was safe. Service: 1
We stayed 4 nights in a 3-room unit that was spacious and well-equipped. Everything was excellent. I recommend the owner to be a little more generous with the customers in the small things, such as putting coffee capsules next to the coffee machine and not demanding payment for it. Other than that, everything was excellent, that's why I gave a score of 5.
