Mixed experience. Selection was small (as expected), the food we had was well prepared, but for some reason we weren’t offered all the options that other tables were being served. Maybe they just forgot to mention it, still it was disappointing. A xeroxed menu of the day would make things so much easier. There were only two red wines available by the glass, when it wouldn’t be any hassle to have a few more options. Overall, they seem somewhat understaffed, with one person managing the kitchen and another one for service. Thus, they weren’t as attentive as we would have wished. Patrons on neighbouring tables who inquired how this or that dish was prepared were almost rudely put in place, “just wait and see, we won’t explain, take it or leave it”. For the hefty prices they charge, we would have expected even more quality in every respect. Maybe you only get full attention if you’re a regular. Tucked away in a quiet corner of Pestalozzistraße, Anabelas Kitchen is one of those hidden gems you could easily miss — even if you know the area well. From the outside, you could miss it. Once inside, though, it feels like stepping into someone’s home. The intimate setting and the small team create an immediately warm and familiar atmosphere. There’s no printed menu other than for drinks; Anabela herself comes to your table to explain what’s available, asking about any allergies or intolerances before describing the starters and mains of the day. You choose from a few carefully selected dishes — two mains, perhaps a couple of starters, and one dessert — and that’s it. Every dish was delicious, fresh, and straightforward: honest Mediterranean cuisine without unnecessary frills. The drinks list complements the food perfectly. It’s a simple yet refined concept that works beautifully. Five stars from us. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Price per person: €70–80
