Came here for omakase dinner. Great value for $100. Alot of variety, fish was fresh, the hot apps were good too. The chefs were hard working. But not your typical omakase experience as the chefs were making sushi for the a la carte customers as well, so not as much interaction. We visited TOSHI RYORITEN on a cold, icy Monday evening and were able to walk in without a reservation, even though the restaurant was quite busy, which we appreciated. We ordered the TOSHI Course ($99), which offered a thoughtfully paced with quality ingredients and seasonality. The meal began with two seasonal appetizers. The Chawanmushi (Japanese steamed egg custard) was smooth and delicate, with a comforting dashi flavour. The second appetizer featured chicken in vinegar, deep-fried lotus root with shrimp, and yellowtail, offering a nice contrast of textures and a refreshing balance of flavours. The assorted sashimi included Madai, Hamachi, and Toro, topped with Hokkaido uni and ikura. The fish was fresh and clean in flavour, and the uni added a rich, creamy finish. The chef’s choice of 11 pieces of nigiri sushi showcased both classic and creative selections, including amaebi, ika, tuna with caviar, seared salmon, cuttlefish, eel, scallop, toro, kampachi, and seared foie gras sushi. The sushi rice was well seasoned and consistent, allowing the quality of the fish to stand out. We also picked the tuna maki (6 pieces) and a tuna hand roll, made with the fresh fish of the day. Simple and satisfying. The course continued with a small bowl of hot soba soup, which was light and comforting, and finished with a matcha mousse dessert that was smooth and not overly sweet. The dining room felt calm and refined, and the washroom was spotless, clean, and very well maintained, reflecting good attention to cleanliness. Overall, the TOSHI Course delivers a solid and authentic Japanese dining experience with quality ingredients and careful execution. A very enjoyable meal, especially considering how busy the restaurant was, and a place we would be happy to return to, thank you for the thoughtful meal !
