I have been to the Octagon a number of times over the years, for many special occasions and was there recently for another special occasion. Usually, I have been satisfied. However, during my last visit, some aspects fell short. The atmosphere is very nice with dark mahogany wood detailing and stained glass. The service was fine, except our dessert was finished by the time our coffee arrived. The garlic bread and pickle/olive tray were good as well. I was very offended by Steve (I am not sure, but I think he was the manager last night, because the server told me he needed to ask him about my switching to a different table), as I had requested to change a table because a bright light was directed at my eyes, snd it was uncomfortable. I told him if he sat down where I was he would notice, to which he replied twice: "I heard you the 1st time". I found his behaviour to be rude, dismissive and unacceptable. To compare, I have been to the Keg, they would never ever speak to a customer that way! This behaviour was very off-putting and I thought about leaving, but ended up staying because I did not want to let his poor choice of words ruin my special occasion. I said nothing to him at the time, but if he is reading this review, he should be aware of how badly he made me feel. This is an expensive fine dining place, the management should set an example for good customer service. As for the food, I had fillet of sole with mashed potatoes. It was very good. My husband ordered steak, and all it came with besides his potatoes were 2 small mushrooms! For over 60 dollars, I would have expected some vegetables on the side and not a virtually bare plate! I ended up giving him half of my vegetables. We shared a caesar salad, it is 24 dollars per person, it can only be ordered by 2 people. To me, $48 for salad is overpriced. We ordered grand marnier with strawberries to share and tiramisu for dessert. The amount of strawberries provided was substantially less than what I remember, it was minimal on a small plate and not worth the cost. The tiramisu was ok. It too, was small for what it cost. The total bill was nearly $300 without alcohol including tax and tip for 2 people. Although the food was good, I feel it was expensive for what we had. Price per person: $100+
