Everything is allright. Free sauna. Parking without a problem. Excellent breakfast. Dinner problem. And the restaurant offered a menu, they didn't cook. Perhaps only one day in the offer some mix for the price of 30. Euro. And that was really too much. Rooms: 5 Service: 4 Location: 4 Hotel highlights: Quiet

Getting there was a bit difficult because the hotel we booked is called Wagners and the hotel at the given address is Frauenberger, only at the entrance "around the corner" there is a note on the door with the current name. The hotel was probably taken over by a new owner almost 6 months ago. Information on the website would have been very helpful for getting there. The check-in, the evening buffet, the breakfast and the service were very good and friendly. I think if a little more time and love is invested in the hotel, it is a really nice place to relax. Great ambience, kitchen still has some room for improvement. My review refers to the restaurant for dinner. This time we ate here as out-of-house guests, so we didn't stay in the hotel. Nevertheless, we have known the hotel, previously known as the Hotel Frauenberger, since the 1990s and come here almost every year. Even after the recent change of ownership - the house is now called Hotel Wagner - sitting in the restaurant with its open show kitchen is as lovely as ever. White tablecloths, napkins made of fabric (and not paper) and neatly set tables speak for good table culture. The tables are far enough apart so you can have a conversation without being disturbed. Particularly from the seats near the window, the view can sweep over the northern foreland of the Großer Inselsberg. In summer it's also nice to sit on the outdoor terrace (closed due to the weather during our visit), where menu items are also served and barbecue evenings etc. occasionally take place. Both house guests on their half board and external a la carte eaters can feel at home in the restaurant. It was pleasant to hear that there was continuity among the service and kitchen crew despite the recent (and for some, as we heard, surprising) change of ownership, so that there was no fluctuation, as one occasionally observes in other establishments shortly after a change of ownership can. The service was friendly and attentive. If she had time, the restaurant manager was also available to answer questions or have a quick chat. Positive: - Good draft fresh beer - Wide selection of wines by the glass (we counted 17 varieties) - Tasty roulade and red cabbage (€22.40, see picture), but unfortunately not the dumplings, see below - When the sixth grader traveling with us asked whether the small children's schnitzel with fries (€5.90) could be larger (?), the service and kitchen responded very well: a large schnitzel with a lot of fries was served, which was appropriate Price of €11.80 (=double children's portion). - Nicely prepared and tasty dessert (passion fruit parfait with fresh berries €9.50) What we could have imagined better: - In the large "colorful summer salad with house-smoked duck breast" (€14.80), the leaf lettuce and dressing were OK, but the thin strips of duck breast unfortunately had an almost leathery consistency. - While the beef roulade and the red cabbage tasted good, in my opinion an unwritten Thuringian law was violated in this dish: Thuringian dumplings, if offered in Thuringia, should also be Thuringian dumplings and taste like that. The two dumplings served with the meal were, firstly, untypically small, and secondly, without any filling. In our opinion, cubes of white bread toasted in butter or at least croutons should be included. This is how they used to be served in Frauenberger. And: three small dumplings would be better than two here. The dumplings tasted more like Franconian (softer than Thuringian, as there are no raw potatoes) or ready-made dumplings (?) When serving, a suggestion to the kitchen team would be not to let the sauce mix with the red cabbage. So that you can taste both components. Better to put roulade and sauce on one side of the dumplings and the red cabbage on the other. - Among the open wines in the range from €5.50 to mostly €7.00 for 0.2 l (three of which are rosé and seven each of white and red) we only found three regional wines (one each of rosé, white and red) . We wish there were more Thuringian wines here, as there is a good range of Saale-Unstrut wines. With the red ones, for example, we could imagine local wines that go very well with both the snack platter and the roulade or schnitzel: Bell triad from Weingut Beyer or Blauer Portugieser from Weingut Manfred Deckert. As a rosé and universal food accompaniment and easy-drinking wine, we would think of “Alles Rosa” by Klaus Böhme. We wish Mr. Wagner and the team all the best! We'd love to come back.
