A delightful Persian restaurant offering exquisite Persian dishes. The staff were friendly, and there was complimentary street parking available. Highly recommended if you're craving delicious Persian cuisine. Sara, after whom the restaurant is named, has not been involved for years. Sara is a generally mediocre restaurant with some really good dishes, moderate prices, lame service and disgusting toilets. The ambience is a bit tasteless, indifferent at best, a mix of vaguely Iranian elements and run-of-the-mill decor like you find in many restaurants. There is nothing loving here. Main courses are served on traditional Iranian metal plates, a technique called منبّتکاری, in which floral patterns are struck into copper plates with hammers. Apart from hygiene, the food gets cold quickly. Cold is a good keyword; If more than three tables are occupied, you need Buddhist patience while waiting for the food. As an amuse geule, a small plate of generic oriental flatbread, counted pieces of feta cheese and also counted cucumber and tomato slices and a few herbs is always served. Traditionally there are several aromatic varieties; at Sara you make do with lots of flat-leaf parsley and sometimes a few mint leaves. There are delicious starters and the grilled dishes are usually very good. Mostly because the quality of the meat varies. These dishes are served with either basmati rice or salad. You can safely do without salad, Iranian restaurants and salad will never be friends. It's never fresh and the only dressing is bottled horror. There is bad news for vegetarians, there are hardly any vegetarian dishes. The rest of the dishes on the menu are not worth mentioning. In almost all cases it is *Khoresht* خرشت, stews with vegetables and meat, which are served with basmati rice. These are strictly the domain of housewives who prepare them with patience and love. Soft drinks are served from liter bottles; if you're lucky, you'll still get some carbonation. The service is slow, but mostly polite and friendly. If we didn't speak Persian, communication would certainly be complicated. Card payment is not accepted. And the toilets are disgusting. Cold, super uncomfortable and disgusting!
