We recently visited Pizza Maru & Katsuya in Calgary, and I can honestly say it was one of the most unique and satisfying dining experiences I've had in the city. This restaurant offers a rare blend of Korean-style pizzas and Japanese katsu dishes, and they pull it off incredibly well. We are giving it a 4.5/5 as our food took a while but it is all good. I had the Pork Loin Katsu Curry: The katsu was perfectly breaded—crispy without being greasy—and served with a flavorful Japanese curry that had just the right spice level. My wife on the other hand wasn’t sure what to expect from the Chicken Carbonara Katsu, but wow—it exceeded all expectations. The dish combines crispy, golden-brown chicken katsu with a creamy carbonara sauce that’s rich, savory, and packed with umami. The katsu cutlet was perfectly fried: super crunchy on the outside and juicy inside, without any greasiness. The carbonara sauce was velvety and generously coated the chicken, adding a bold cheesy flavor with hints of garlic and black pepper. There were bits of smoked bacon (or pancetta) in the sauce too, which added even more depth. We also had the Gold & Silver Brick Cheese Katsu and this was amazing! It’s the bomb! 1 order wasn’t enough. I wish we ordered more! Overall it was an amazing experience and we will definitely come back. Price per person: $90–100 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
