Was craving some Chinese food and this place definitely did the trick! Food was pretty good and filling.. We ordered the following + chicken corn soup and with just the two of us, we had some leftovers left. We finished pretty early because of how fast we were gobbling it down even though we got there only an hour and a half before closing (we were there at around 7:30-8:15). What really set the mood for the rest of our night though was the service near the end of our meal. I finished earlier than my boyfriend did, but ever since I put my fork down, one of the servers would not stop poking his head to check in on us every other minute. I didn’t even notice it at first until the 3rd-5th time. As soon as my boyfriend set his fork down, he came at us after pretending to mind his business (still clearly watching over us the whole time prior). He did wrap up our dinner and packed everything up, but during payment, my boyfriend asked to pay half the bill with a visa gift card he got. He said it was fine as if it was no problem at all and even did took the card to swipe it himself, but because he did it himself he did end up skipping the tipping part. He proceeded to help us with the rest for a debit payment, in which he explained to us how the tipping percentage would only apply on the unpaid part of the payment (not the full cost) and we said we understood. I’ll be honest, we’re both college students so we couldn’t leave a generous tip but we left what we could. After he saw which percentage my boyfriend hit on the terminal, he proceeded to passive-aggressively say “You get it right? You understood what I meant?”. I said yes and midway of me just echoing his explanation, he cuts me of and says “Ok then” while shrugging with a very annoyed look on his face and takes back the terminal. He rips the receipt and slams it on the table without saying anything else. The tipping culture’s already crazy as is, but I’ve never had this happen right in front of me. Other than this specific server (middle-aged man), everyone else was amazing (the old men working). Anyways, I just want to put my experience out there especially after leaving very disappointed in what a good night shouldve been. Food: 4 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 3 Price per person: $40–50

We had high hopes for Pearl River Restaurant in Edmonton, but unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. We spent nearly $200 on a meal that simply didn’t meet expectations. While the food came out very quickly, it didn’t feel fresh, and some dishes even tasted a bit off. On top of that, the quantity of meat in certain dishes was very underwhelming especially the shrimp dish, which had far fewer shrimp than we expected for the price. The quality and flavor overall were lacking, and for what we paid, we anticipated much better. Sadly, this visit left us dissatisfied, and we don’t see ourselves returning.
