We had read excellent reviews of L'Ortone and were excited to try the food. Upon arrival, we were seated next to the toilet, which smelled strongly of cleaning product. The waiter promptly served us water but then neglected us for a further 35 minutes before taking our drink and food order. This only happened after my wife had to ask if we could order. We felt invisible as the waiter chose to serve surrounding tables that had arrived after us. Once we ordered, we moved through our starter, main course, and dessert relatively quickly, finishing in about an hour. The gnocchi was delicious, and the waiter kindly went to the effort of splitting the dish for us. The duck and beef dishes were also very tasty; however, it would have been helpful to be informed that neither dish came with any greens so we could have ordered a side to accompany them. Both the tiramisu and the apple cake for dessert were delicious. Overall, we felt the meal was good value and the food was excellent. It is a shame the service let it down.
