Excellent dinner served with courtesy and professionalism; the tartare prepared by the only woman present among the dining room staff was excellent. It was a great experience that I recommend to everyone because "In galera" is a restaurant that leaves something inside you (and I'm not talking about kg).

This was a unique and special experience. The "In Galera" restaurant is actually located inside a prison. To be precise, it is inside the first "walls" of the "5-star prison" in Baranzate, a municipality on the north-western outskirts of Milan. The restaurant is also starred and in the evening you dine à la carte. Refined dishes and dishes. Reservation is also mandatory because you enter by passing the first check by the prison officers. Obviously not There is no access to the inmate area. Massimo, the maître d' and the owner of the cooperative will be the only non-prisoners you will meet, while the table service staff and the chef are prisoners. They work in the restaurant as the cooperative deals with training and reintegration into work, aimed at recovering the person for his return to society at the end of his sentence. Many famous people have dined there, artists, politicians and even Cracco who defined the whole place as 5 stars. I will tell you about my experience. With a group of friends we decided to try it at midday. There is a fixed menu, or rather 2 as follows: first course, second side dish, water and coffee €12, the other has dessert and wine for €16. The environment is evocative with posters of films on the theme of detention such as escape to victory or escape from Alcatraz and so on hanging on the walls. The placemats are photos of Italian and foreign prisons. The environment and also the services are spotless and the staff super professional. Fully stocked and visible wine cellar. There are ships and galleons handmade by prisoners on display. The lunch menu changes every day. We were served maccheroncini with fresh tomato with bacon (matriciana type), 1/2 cockerel with caramelized red onion on top and baked potatoes as a side dish. I must say everything was excellent, cooked well, quality raw materials and exceptional service. Even the dessert is made by the chef. We had a fantastic day, had a unique experience and ate very well. Now they should also open an outdoor space for the summer season. Definitely worth trying again for dinner. Even the business lunch, at a fixed price, is 5 stars, despite the €12 or €16 bill as I wrote above.
