This restaurant, being at the top of a mountain, and the highest elevation restaurant in Canada, definitely has a lot of expectations for visitors dining at the restaurant.
The menu offers mostly American classics-I had the Alberta beef burger with fries and the summit salad. We came as a big group, so I tried some other items as well.
Overall, the food is good, however I feel could have more depth in terms of the uniqueness of ingredients and style of food. My burger was tasty but on the dry side, and the salad was kind of bland. The quinoa salad was also nothing spectacular.
A good place for a meal overall, with a spectacular view and memorable experience, however I think the menu could be revamped a bit.
When you are paying $50 for an entree, you hope for a bit more. The server, covered with earrings on her tongue and black ringed eyes, had not a minimal of level of interest in her job did not do a single thing right. When asked a question about the menu or drinks menu, she was basically rude and disinterested. We would have to wave her down for a fresh drink. We were struggling with the appetizers and hoping she'd give us more information...we ended up winging it and ordering 'beef cheeks' which turns out to be exactly what it says, and is basically a chunk of full on fat. I had to run to the WR and retch.
The scallops apply used to be a delicious beautiful plate- now its literally two undersized fried scallops in a soup of seafood flavoured mayo on a giant plate - it is just ridiculous. These appetizers had obviously sat before being served as the sauce had formed a congealed layer on top. She did not notify us that we would have no vegetables with our entree - she could have suggested.
Our steaks were served with butter knives, our wine and our water glasses sat empty, she let us sit for 15 minutes after we finished our entree while she was more interested in closing down the restaurant and doing dishes even though there were several diners and it was only 9 o'clock. We got to listen the whole evening to crashing silverware being put into its storage spot right behind us a la Humpty's. The lights were on full blast and more than one diner asked if they could be adjusted, but I guess it wasn't possible.
Dinner for two: $200. and I couldn't WAIT to get out of there. We left without having our dessert for which we were going on 20 minutes waiting for. She did not even remove them from our bill.
I hope they will give a heads up to the locals when this place is back to snuff. I think there is a great restaurant half way down the mountain where you'll probably have a nicer experience for your money.
