To be very honest I thought this restaurant won best restaurant of Halifax for years in a row for a reason. It was until I witnessed it myself. The overpriced food no doubt was just decentbut it was the banal and nonchalant attitude of our server, the moment we entered at 8.50pm we were informed the kitchen was closing at 9.30. Which was fine we quickly placed our main course order. I had requested for masala papadums as an appetiser , we were refused and informed kitchen is closing. Post dinner I requested for the dessert menu and was refused as kitchen was closed. The time was 9.25pm.Mind you we were the only customers at the restaurant. Definitely not what I expected in a hospitality/ customer service business. It makes sense nowthe overpriced food not the issue it’s the staff and sheer lack of care and customer service. We have been long time customers of Dhaba Express since they opened years ago in Halifax and were completely satisfied with service and food with a few minor exceptions. I would estimate that our annual spend at Dhaba was around $500 per year over the last number of years. We recently moved out of Halifax around 100 km away. For New Year's Eve we decided to get Dhaba as a special treat. We ordered one day ahead with a pick-up time of 4:45pm on Jan 31. We picked up the food (order number #168875 on time and I paid a 10% tip. The order slip indicated that all dishes were checked off and bagged. We drove home 1.5 hours and discovered that a key dish (beef vindaloo) was not bagged as was documented on the receipt. We called them and they discovered the missing dish sitting there. They said we could pick it up. We told them we were 1.5 hours away. We explained we were long term customers and were hoping for an acknowledgement that this was on them and maybe they could do a little better than offer us a dish we had already purchased. We expressed our dissatisfaction with the response and we suggested we would consider not frequenting their restaurant in future. We were told that was our choice and that was it. Wow, really bad customer relations. Surely they can do better than this! All I can say is that profit trumps customer satisfaction at this business. We will no longer give them our business.
