Service: Dine in Meal type: Lunch Price per person: MAD 1–50 Food: 3 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 5

Club Ibn Batouta is a large hidden gem--a café-restaurant with delicious carefully-prepared food. It is located close to the Iberia (Place de Koweit), the underground Parking Iberia, Mosque Mohammed V and a Banque Populaire on Avenue Belgique. Every Friday, a couscous is served. Club Ibn Batouta is particularly popular as a gathering spot for teachers and students, many of whom use laptop computers or do their homework assignments here. The WiFi is reliably strong, and the passcode is printed at the bottom of your paper receipt. There is an entrance from a side walkway of Mosque Mohammed V that is close to Parking Iberia on Avenue Belgique. You walk down eleven steps and immediately see a dozen tables in one of the large rooms. As one room is below ground level, it is almost always pleasantly cool, and there is a cooling breeze if a door at the far end is open. Another entrance to Club Ibn Battouta cafe-restaurant is on Rue Phéniciens, which is wheel-chair accessible. Inside there are three very large rooms, one 66 feet by 21 feet and the main room with kitchen area: 66 feet by 26 feet (excluding the 14 foot wide kitchen). They are relaxing, quiet and ideal for students and teachers to study or tutor without distractions. A light-filled open-to-the-sky central courtyard roughly 40 feet x 40 feet has about two dozen tables positioned around the four sides. There are some potted plants and paintings on the walls. The fountain was not turned on during my visit. The courtyard also has a flatscreen television on one wall with the volume muted. Two clean toilets, one for men and the other for women, are accessed from the courtyard. The Moroccan waiter who greeted me is someone I have seen at another nearby café over my 35 years in Tangier. He served me promptly my coffee in a cup with saucer, and you get a bottle of cool mineral water. Club Ibn Batouta is a relaxing place to enjoy a beverage or meal. Every Friday, a delicious couscous is prepared. In September 2025, the new Resto Faysso will finally open upstairs with a glass-enclosed covered terrace facing the park and Avenue Belgique. Pizzas, salads, hamburgers, pommes frites and drinks will be on the menu. A waiter told me that Resto Faysso will be off limits to people working on laptops. Resto Faysso is a pleasant and quite café and restaurant. It is an attractive addition to this complex, but completely separate from the Club Ibn Battouta downstairs. Cash in Dirhams, credit and debit cards are not accepted. Food: 4 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 5 Service: Dine in Meal type: Other Price per person: MAD 1–50
